Post 7 championship

Alright, a lot happened during the section of the book. They ended up winning the championship, but it was not easy. They had to hunt a total of 3 nights just to qualify, and that is not easy on a dog, so you have to remember that. During the championship night, the author shows the determination and the trust that Billy has in his dogs. He shows this because during that night, there was a storm and his grandpa had fallen down and gotten hurt. The judge of the competition wanted to go back and leave the dogs, but Billy had his dogs back on this on he stud up for them, he believed they where treed and had a coon in the tree to win the competition.

After they won the competition and Billy got all his earnings. He was out one night hunting as he always did with his dogs. He could tell his dogs where on trail with something but it did not sound right to be a coon. They had ben treed three different times and it had bailed out of the tree before he had got there and he could not see because it was dark. Finally he got to the tree and reailized it was a mountain lion. The cat jumped out of the tree and the dogs caught it and it was fighting with the dogs. It ended up hurting Old Dan really bad and he ended up dying. Little Ann was pretty beat up but was not going to die. Billy got Little Ann home and got her all fixed up and after a couple of days Billy realized she was not eating. He couldn’t figure this out tell one night when he could not take it no more he went out to where he had berried Old Dan and there was Little Ann sleeping at his grave. What most people do not realize is the connection between a boy and his first hound to most people the hound world is just a game most people do not understand all the time, money, effort. That goes into owning a good solid hound, so when they die it is not easy. This really apply’s when you have two out of the same litter of pups. It does not only take a tole on the owner but also the other dog. Little Ann doesn’t really know how to live because she always had Old Dan by her side all the time so after she died it took such a tole on her she ended up dying to, because she wouldn’t eat or drink. After that it really took a tole on Billy because those dogs where his life that’s all that he would do 24/7.

The author is really showing the circle of life all through this book but the end of it really shows it. You never know when that last hunt is going to be so value your time. This goes well beyond hunting or even the connection with a boys first dog. It could also mean with you family members also. I think what the author is trying to explain through the hole book is that idea of you can do really well at something for a long time but eventually that luck is going to run out and then something else is going to fall apart. This is really showed when Billy gets his own dogs and they start getting some coons then they get money for them then they win the championship. That’s to many good things in life to happen to not have a consequence. The consequence being that after the champion ship he did not even really get time to value it because his dogs where the ones that got sacrificed because the world is not a fair place, and I think that is what the author is trying to get at that hard work pays off but only for so long then you got to go back to working hard.

Post 6 Champion ship part 1

In this section, not to much happens. The author really shows how Billy’s family has hard life growing up they do no have a lot of money so it is hard for them to get by. Especially with younger kids that do not really realize that yet Billy realizes because he knows the value of money but his sisters do not quite understand what that is yet.Piece of cinematic history in Oklahoma washed away in flood | KFOR.com Oklahoma City

This gives you an idea of what Billy’s house looked like well he was growing up.

The author talks about how Billy’s grandpa gets Billy to go to the big coon hunting champion ship coon hunt. In todays day they call it the UKC this is a hunt where only the best of the best go. The author really shows the hard work and all the time Billy has put into his two little hounds. The one thing is Billy doesn’t know if his dogs are good enough to even be there. The first day they get there they have a competition about who has the best looking dog. Billy goes up to old dan and sees all the scars he has gotten from fighting coons and hunting. Old dan is just that overall dog that does not care what happens to him he jsut wants to get the job done and I like that in a dog. That is when Billy realises mabey little and is a beeter option so he goes over there and lloks at her and he realises she does not have any scars what so ever that is because she was the brains of the opertaitiobn and Old dan was the power. Billy sees all these big time coon hunter getting there dogs all shiny with oils and gel. You got to remember that his family is not rich by now means so he gets butter and runs that through little Anns hair and that gets her all shiny and he ends up winning that part of the comeptition with the best looking dog.

Post 5 consequences

in this section of the book, it’s just an overview of one big, long hunt. There is something about this hunt that is not normal. I see a theme or big idea kind of show up in this section. in the book, it talks about how no one believes Billy because he is just a kid with dogs, but no one actually knows how good the dogs are, because Billy is just a kid and no one believes him for that reason.

For this reason two kids show up to his grandpas store one day and claim they got a coon that even the best coon dogs in the world could not tree and they challenged Billy and his dogs to tree him. At first Billy did not want to take the bet but his grandpa ended up getting him to take the bet. Later Billy ends up treeing the coon and he doesn’t want to kill it because he thinks it deserves to live witch is the sportsman thing to do its the right thing to do. The boys he made the bet with had a blue tick hound that Billy did not want around his dogs because Billy’s dogs never hunted with anyone else dogs before. Well Billy was right and that dog broke its tie out and got to the coon tree and there was a dog fight which I’ve seen happen hound hunting in my time its a unusual dog coming in and it just triggers a fight I’m not sure why but it does. anyways the kid went to try and save his dog and fell on his axe and he died.

I see the author putting the idea of being the good person in the end is always better.  Because those other kids did the wrong thing and ended up getting reprimanded for doing the wrong thing.

Post 4 Lucky

I really like how the author crafts Billy’s hunts through the hole season and explains them through the story and stuff. I really like how they explain the fact of how the hounds work as a team.

Coonhound Training Scent / Trailing ...

I read in the last section and I was kind of thinking about how good dogs do not last for ever and eventually he is not going to have those two pups no more so one night when Billy was out hunting. His female pup fell through the ice and when a hound falls threw the ice its almost 100% that they are going to die fairy rarely they survive but Billy somehow saves his dog and that is really lucky for Billy.

I really like how he goes into depth about his hounds relationship. One night he tried to take one of his dogs hunting and it turned around and went home because it did not have its hunting buddy. I personally see this all the time in the hound world. There’s a lot of times where this happens when the dogs are littermate’s because they have grown up around each other and spend all there life together so they do not know what to do when they are not with each other.

Post 3 Hunting

Billy does end up catching a coon, but it did take him about a week because he did not really know how to trap one so he had to learn on his own. I did the same things with my dogs when I trained them. The only thing different between me and Billy is the style of how he hunts compared to mine. I hunt bear with dogs he hunts coon, I use walker hounds, and walker Bluetick hounds. Billy uses red bone hounds.

The type of dog really does not matter its all personal preference. All breads can have good solid dogs.

Billy then gets his dogs trained and goes out hunting for the first time. Coon hunting is kind of and over looked sport in Wisconsin anyway. There is a lot of big time hunts down south for some big money. Some of the PKC hunts can range from 40,000$-100,000$ for first place. Witch is pretty good for what your doing. Personally I do not do any of those because I run Bears not coons. So there is kind of a lot of difference when it comes to hunting bear rather than coons. It takes more of a aggressive dog to run bears they have to be a little bit more smarter because your running an older track.

What About Bears and Dogs? - North ...                                               One thing to remember is that in many different states they are trying to stop hunting with dogs. Witch I don’t really see why because they have did it for century’s so why would they do it now.

I really like that Billy keeps his promise to his dogs he said if they treed a coon that first night out he would do the rest. They ended up treeing a coon in a big pine tree, and his parents wouldn’t allow him to carry a gun alone in the woods, so they gave him a little hatchet to cut down the trees but when you get a big tree that doesn’t work to well. He did it anyway, by doing this and keeping the promise to the dogs it gives the dog so much more confidence in that he did the right thing because he knows he did the right thing. It makes them perform better and just overall become a better dogs. This really applies to the young dogs that are just starting out making sure that they know and you reward them for doing the right thing is huge when training in new pups. I am really excited to see what happens next in the book and see how much more his dogs progress.

post 2 Training the Pups

Billy got to Tahlequah, and there were some kids there who were not so nice to him. Then he ended up going to the train station to get his pups. Well, he was in town, and he decided to take his extra 10 dollars and get his parents and sister some gifts to maybe help his parents deal with the fact that he just bought two dogs for 40 dollars, which at the time, 40 dollars was a lot. When he got home, his parents where not as mad as I thought they would be. Now he is on a mission to trap a coon because that is what he is going to be targeting with the dogs. So after he traps the coon he is going to do dry drags to train the dogs. Its where you take a coon and drag it through the woods and put it in a tree then wait a bit and dump the dogs on the track and see if they can trail it to the tree. That is what will determine if the dogs have what it takes to be number one. His dogs name are Old Dan he is the male he is a big red bone. They female her name is little an witch suits her because she is aa little red bone pup. I will continue reading to see what these dogs are made of and to see if they have what it takes.

Post 1 The Puppies Come Home

To start off the book, I am really enjoying the book. There is a lot of personal connection for me, and I am only about 40 pages in. I am really curious to see how his parents will react when he walks in the door with the two red bone pups that he has. I know the feeling of coming home with your first hunting dog, one you’ve saved all your money for, and not telling your parents you’re bringing a dog home. That’s what I did, and now I have two and am going to buy a third. This relates to more of the personal connections I have to the story. Some Questions that I have are: How good are the dogs going to be? Are they actually going to run coon or are they gonna be trashy and run other things that they are not suppose to? In the hound world, really, with any hounds, they either have it or they do not you can not force them to hunt they have to want to hunt.

Red Fern Grows (1974 film) - Alchetron ...     Some predictions I have going forward in the story is I think the dogs are going to work out it seems like the Billy can train them well. He likes to be outside a lot so he is going to be spending lots of time with his pups.

I really like Billy as a character he seems to have a good work ethic he saved up for those pups at a young age and that shows lot at this time because money was hard to come by during this point in time. I like his parents and how they view his passion for having dogs they just couldn’t get dogs for Billy because they did not have the money and I do understand that good dogs ain’t cheap and cheap dogs ain’t good that is just how it works. I am really looking forward to seeing what the next part of the book offers and am really looking forward to reading it.

Starter Post

My book is Where the Red Fern Grows. I picked this book because it connects to me personally a lot. It’s about a young boy who gets two hunting dogs. I am reading it by myself because no one else really shows interest in reading hunting books like I do. I’m looking forward to explaining this book through a one-pager. I think there are a lot of good ways this book can be presented. I am apprehensive about the book just because I’m not sure how the story is going to be explained or written out compared to the movie. I’m going to read the book very closely and pick up on the key details of how everything is explained to ensure my success.

Motivating Emotions

Fear- In Act 2 when Marry is scared that Abbi is going to kill her. She thinks she’s going to kill her because Mary told someone the actual truth and did not lie like Abbi always does. That pushes the story ahead when they go into court and then the truth has to be told.

Love- Act 3 when John proctor says he is going to go to court to save his wife. He willing goes to help save his wife even though it could expose him about his affair with Abbi.

Jealousy- Act 1 when Abbi and proctor kind of get into like a argument and Abbi reminds him about their affair. Then in Act 3 again she brings it up because she wants to have proctor instead of Elizabeth.

Lying- When marry claims that she fainted on purpose that she did it so then since she claims that they asked her to do it and she could not faint so that’s a lie. Also then again in Act 3 Abbi lies about the affair with proctor to try and save herself.

Changing The Audience

I think that the stories did change the audience. I think this because of a lot of different reasons. One would be that in De Las Casas they explain how the pearl diver people were treated very poorly. They were forced into being a pearl diver and they were forced to do things that they did not want to do. I think that because the audience may have heard this, it might have changed their way of thinking about life, when you think about life most people take it for granted but after you hear things like this and how people are treated poorly. Maybe you would realize not to take life for granted anymore because your life could be a lot worse than you think it already is.
